Why does our body tell us we are hungry when we are really thirsty?

 

Well, if you think about it, our body is very resourceful. It has to find water where it can if there is a shortage. Food, believe it or not, contains some water. At least live food does contain water like fruits and vegetables. 

Now if you make a dish that has gravy or sauce that contains water that is a source. Not a very good source but it’s something. Your body will beg, borrow and steal water from places in your body that it considers less important. 

Just like if you were in snow, your body will conserve heat to your body and head and not your extremities. Your feet and hands are the first to go. Your body does not consider them as “important”. 

I think all my body parts are important, but your body does not think that way. Its only mission in some circumstances is to preserve life. You may only be a stump left, but you are alive!

So Am I Hungry Or Thirsty?

 

Similar to dehydration, if you don’t drink water, or enough water when your body calls for it and you ignore it, your body will look elsewhere. It will ask for food. Some foods have high water content. It knows it can squeeze some water out of food that is moist or juicy. 

So just because your body is not asking for water, does not mean you are not thirsty. Your sensors are just not working or have been turned off. Your body turns off lots of sensors. So, next time when your body asks you ‘Am I hungry or thirsty’, you should know.

When you spray on perfume and after a few minutes you don’t smell it anymore. Your body is just doing you a favor so you don’t have to smell it anymore. The same thing with water, if your body asks you ‘am I hungry or thirsty’ and you don’t respond it will turn off the sensor. It doesn’t want to burn itself out.

How much water should you drink? 

 

Start drinking half your body weight in ounces and your sensors will turn on. You will be so thirsty you won’t understand why when you just drank water. You may have a dry mouth and you just drank water. You may have dry skin now. All because your sensors have now been turned on. 

Your body wants you to know that you need to drink more water. Your body and your brain control everything and can be cruel when it wants something bad enough. 

You must listen to or see the signs of dehydration. If you are not drinking on average 8 glasses of water a day then you may be dehydrated. Your body will go to extremes to get what it wants. Don’t let it get to that point. 

Be good to your body. Give it what it needs before it asks. Before it gives you a dry mouth. Before it gives you dry skin or worst. Yes, there is a worst.

What is worst? 

 

Do you think of a headache when you are thirsty? You could just be thirsty. When you are irritable, do you think of water? Maybe your loved ones can recognize the symptoms. 

Dehydration and weight loss connection  –

 

Wow, could water change their mood? Ok now here comes the bad and the ugly. If you are dehydrated, you may have dry eyes, cracked lips, rapid heart rate, cramps, urinary tract infections, and the worst is, if you have dehydration, you can’t have weight loss.  Yes, you heard it right! There is a connection between dehydration and weight loss. 

Wow, I can’t have weight loss because I am dehydrated? Now that is scary. Your body actually slows down your fat-burning capabilities. Your body is out of its mind! 

And you even look fatter when you are dehydrated because your body swells up for lack of water. 

Solution –

 

Ok, so all you have to do to avoid your body going into crazy hyperdrive is to drink water? Not just one glass here and there. You need to drink about 8 glasses a day which is half your body weight in ounces. 

For example, if you weigh 140 lbs, half is 70 lbs or 70 ounces=8.75 glasses. So drink 9 per day. That’s the minimum. On a hot day, you may drink more. 

If you are an athlete you may sweat a lot and may drink more. Either way, if you have some of these symptoms, you may want to start drinking more water. Cracked lips are no joke. And it won’t go away overnight. 

So to be on the safe side, drink the water, not the sugary drinks. 

And drink water to prevent dehydration and fulfill your weight loss goals. 

Soda is not a replacement for water. You just added all that sugar and now you need water to flush it out. Why? Because your body has to be in balance. 

The right amount of sugar, the right amount of water, the right amount of salt, and the right amount of oxygen make everything work and keeps the bugs at bay. 

That’s right, too much sugar can lead to infections. You know you have all kinds of bacteria in your body just waiting for the right moment to jump out and dominate the other. Or for you to mess up. 

You have good and bad bacteria in your gut. If the bad bacteria get out of balance with lots of sugar then they can multiply faster and take over. 

You are 70% water and you need water to replace that volume with new clean water and not fill you up with sugar water.

Try this experiment –

 

Take two glasses and fill each half with water. Then add 10 tablespoons of sugar in one. Stir. until dissolved.  Then take some half nuts and drop them into each cup.  Which is easier to drop at the bottom? Is the sugar solution thicker? 

So, when you drink these sugary drinks, what do you think it is doing to your blood? Is it making it thicker? Does your heart now need to pump harder to move this thicker blood around in all the tiny little places? Then your body processes the sugar and eliminates it through the urine.

Do you think you might get an infection with all that sugar? You might if you drink a lot of these sugary drinks. How can your body eliminate it if it doesn’t have enough water to flush it out? Its only choice is to store it.

If you eat more sugar, than your liver and muscles can store as glycogen, the excess will be converted to fat and deposited into adipose tissue. This process is called lipogenesis. In other words, the sugar turns into fat when consumed in large amounts.
